More economic illiteracy and totalitarianism

In February 2020 the US economy was strong, the border was sort of defended and American private sector wages were rising at a record pace and we had record minority low employment. Then leftards decided to destroy the economy and did so leaving tens of millions unemployed. Now, they want to regulate tens of millions of free lance jobs out of existence. The massive overhead of treating independent contractors as employees will result in the elimination of those jobs. AOC learned all about how government regulations create jobs when she got her degree in economics. Geezus.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/biden-just-endorsed-a-law-that-endangers-57-million-jobs

With the rise of gig economy jobs such as driving for Uber and other forms of independent work enabled by the digital era, more than 57 million Americans now work as freelancers in some capacity. But President Biden just endorsed a radical labor law that endangers their livelihood.

House Democrats recently reintroduced the PRO Act, which, among many sweeping reforms, would make many commonplace forms of independent contractor (freelance) arrangements illegal. It’s based on a California law that was so dysfunctional even voters in the very blue state voted to change it.

“The Administration strongly encourages the House to pass [the PRO Act] and looks forward to working with the Congress to enact this critical legislation that safeguards workers’ rights to organize and bargain collectively,” the White House said in a statement on Monday. “The PRO Act will strengthen our democracy and advance dignity in the workplace.”

Far from “advancing dignity,” in reality, this law would strip millions of their income.

The “independent contractor” dodge is especially pervasive. It needs reform and clarification. You could critique any bill on whether it accomplishes those goals, but this just your trademark grumpy old man rant.

    Why aren't lawyer's in a union?

    rhetorical

We fought a decade long battle with the state of washington on independent contractors and won. I always let the union reps talk to our crews and they always told the union to fuck off. 100K a year in the 80's

Or 17 bucks an hour with hours regulated. Tough call

Yeah you had to work hard and buy your own insurance but Obamacare wasn't in effect so not a big deal

Point is the people decided and knew what was best for them when the state wanted to slash their pay

Uber drivers in Cali voted this shit down. Unions are worthless unless your a public leech. If they weren't people would join them

So why don't we have all income and investment money we all earn sent direct to the government since your bizarre insistence that its not our money means you can spend as much as you want

Then they can send back "our" money

Are you some kind of a retard?

He has a mythical MBA which is worth as much as AOCs economics degree. Neither do taxes and want the government to supply everything. Worked so well throughout history. Government has ruined Cali.

There was a time when teachers weren't unionized either because they were considered and considered themselves as professionals. Not quite at the status of lawyer, doctors but the next rung down of educated people.
  • WestlinnDuckWestlinnDuck Member Posts: 15,638 Standard Supporter
Unfortunately, teacher's are now among the least educated and what they "know" is a result of indoctrination not education. Bottom feeders at our education system. Go read about Jill Biden's doctor in education. Couldn't be more of a fake degree.

I'm familiar with your 25% figure, blob. (And I doubt your effective rate of Federal income tax exceeds 25%). But that 25% figure doesn't explain anything. Isn't the 25% your money too?

There was a time when the vast majority of teachers were women because you didn't need to pay women much.

That time is still today. Most teachers are still women and given the quality of their work most are vastly overpaid.
