I am a big Steely Dan freak, and I was about 25-26 before I realized that 80% of their songs were about drugs (NTTAWWT)...CCR was (is) a big fave, but as 7-8 year old kid. I thought "Who'll Stop the Rain" was about the weather. After a few history classes in college, I began to understand what "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Gimme Shelter" were all about. So much music I grew up listening to had meanings and references that were waaaay over my head.

I think most people there thought they were just playing Nirvana Covers and their one hit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jPglNrZhkA The original version is like murky black coffee from the old fisherman's hangout.
Nirvana's version is like a starbucks vanilla latte.
I know the type of person that prefers the 2nd.
Keep drinking those Starbuck's Vanilla Lattes.
And yet.
