He was asked if when he was a kid he was among the first picked or the last picked

"I'd like to think I was one doing the picking"

Be the captain.

The bloom was off the rose with Davis as "Just Win Baby" became a distant memory from my childhood. Just like the Dolphins. People in their 30s don't remember Miami as one of the most consistently winning franchises in the league for years. People are aghast to hear there was something like a 9 or 10 year win streak over the Pats. There was a similar streak over the Bills. Miami used to own the AFC east.

Same with Davis' Raiders. It just eventually became a punch line.

Still, the man did his own thing and he was original. I'll give him that. But he tended to fall in love with wide receivers with sprinter's speed, looking for the elusive next Cliff Branch. I'm just not sure he was that great at technically fielding a team. Kind of Jerry Jones before Jerry Jones.

When Al focused on football we had the greatness of the Raiders

30 for 30 just looked again at his feud with Rozelle. Al kind of went Captain Ahab.

1983 was a long time ago.
