A Word or Two - or Moar - about the Board

Note: I have not checked with the Kremlin on this missive, so read it while you can b4 Stalin stifles my speech.

My hope for the board is that it is an active place for the free exchange of thoughts, ideas and, yes, opinions ... even big opinions fervently held and expressed. General topics that I believe are fair game here include the following:

> All topics finance of course: Trading, markets, and all things that directly and even indirectly affect trading and markets. That can include politics, but at the point that the discussions turn into Tug political debates, Stalin will shut it down, as he has a couple this week. I bravely stand behind Father Stalin on this point.

> Political Economy: Yes, who but us men (and token gal) of means and sophistication should be discussing this heady topic? See above about frolic and detour.

> Academic: A bit of a stretch, but all members of the Finance club are educated fellows, so why not. This one kind of followed me here, but where else you wanna go? The Tug will just say "indocrination" 50 times and that's all you'll get out of it. We care about higher ed here in da club, so it's fair game.

> Luxury items: If you bought a new Porsche, we? want to hear about it. We can even battle for market share from @Swaye 's and @YellowSnow 's hawt watch talk. Let them eat cake if they don't like it.

> Real Estate: We got @pawz . What do they have? Exactly. We own this one.

> General Industry: We have dabbled in this on Oil & Gas and it went well with good discussions. Moar of this would be ... good.

> Career Advice: This comes up now and again. We have some experienced people who take these topics seriously. Good stuff.

Beyond that, if you find yourself saying someone is Hitler or playing 'scratch and find' word games, Stalin will kill it. As for me, the only thing I expect I'll act on if needed is the @Dnc - level of bullying. Those marathon "fuck you" threads where one or two guys are getting absolutely mauled to a bloody stump are tedious and stupid (yes, I've played) and belong in the Tug. You all know that.

Remember, you're in the Finance Club. Like Melania says, be best.

That's quite enough out of you Grumble. Get back to hoping your Irish don't make the playoffs again.

How do you avoid talking politics if the topic of the economy and economics comes up? Unless you're willing to just make your board a "investment" board you're going to have difficulty keeping politics off your board.

How do you talk about the chicom crud shutting down a college football season on the football board without getting into politics since politics ruined the season and perhaps the Pac 12 forever?

We've done just fine striking that balance heretofore. Like many things in life, there is some subtlety and judgment. Look, I haven't killed a single topic on the board yet. Stalin did both of those. So there's no risk of me being a heavy hand; and it would be the height of hypocrisy for me to be so. I have a big mouth.

That said, a five page thread with 20 poasters finding new and clever ways to say someone is stupid for holding this or that political view, and the posts which egg that on, won't be welcome. We both know what we're talking about here.

Also, straight investment talk can only go so far. We need other topics and we have some brilliant people here who can carry that water. If the politics chit chat is legitimately aimed at the economy or industry or other related topic, then by all means, let her rip!!

If Stalin is having to close down threads and you're having to come over here and preach this pabulum maybe you haven't done as "fine" as you feel you have done.

I regret that you find my material bland and insipid. You are free to think whatever you wish. Two threads in what has been a fair degree of new activity, at least relative to this board's historical levels, seems pretty ok to me. You are the first to voice any disappointment. We wish you well in your travels friend.

Gosh thanks, I'll be sure to clear all my future thoughts with you. You know, I actually like you. You're smart and you can be funny. IRL you and I would probably get along, but you have an aire of pomposity that's a little off putting.

Maybe we should stick to dick jokes.
