Fuck You Ken Behring Day
The Almost Anaheim Seahawks, February 2, 1996
The Pilots got away in 1970 and the Sonics fled in 2008, and back in 1996, the Seahawks almost flew the coop, too. On February 2, 1996-exactly 18 years before this year's Super Bowl—then-Seahawks' owner Ken Behring announced that he was moving the team south (crews had even packed up the workout gear and put it all on trucks to Anaheim). Then, the NFL and many "special teams" of lawyers stepped in and called a false start, and all the barbells and other gear came back north. It wasn't much longer until Paul Allen bought the team and paid for a special election to secure public funding for a new facility - later known as Seahawks Stadium, Qwest Field and eventually CenturyLink Field - to replace the Kingdome.
