The Kawasaki contract had a 100% of remaining salary buyout if he left for a job in the Pac-12.
When Jimmy Lake was DC he had a similar and even more stringent buyout, 100% for a head coaching job in the Pac-12, 100% for a college DC job, 50% for college head coach or NFL DC.
I looked through some other available contracts and those are unusual, especially for the length of the contract.
Other fun things: Jimmy Lake’s paychecks were going to J Lake Enterprises, LLC. The agent and executor was one James Paul Lake, and the address appears to be a $1.7 million home in Bellevue. J Lake Enterprises, LLC failed to submit an annual report, received notice, and was deemed delinquent. The LLC was dissolved a month before Jimmy Lake was announced as head coach. One could speculate that the head coaching decision was made earlier than people thought, and someone was looking at the contracts and wondered WTF is this sloppy DIY LLC and then fixed it.
