Eh, nothing I've read on the guy suggests Ma was any more brutal than your "average Western" billionaire. Ma's problem was that he became too much of a star, went rogue in talking down on CCP financial regulations, so Winnie the Xi had to throw him in a cell for a few months to remind him who's really in charge. Not even globe trotting billionaires have a say when it counters the state.
