EE is going to pass him fairly quickly on the depth chart, definitely a possibility

I've like to theorize that he was a lure to bring in the bigger fish. Early playing time in garbage time, literally no targets, and virtually no game play later in the year with higher rated talent coming in can't lead to a lot of confidence. I do not have proof in hand.
