Kill the plutocracy by removing money from politics

Plutocracy - a society or a system ruled and dominated by the small minority of the wealthiest citizens.
Democracy - a form of government in which all eligible citizens participate equally—either directly or through elected representatives—in the proposal, development, and creation of laws. It encompasses social, economic and cultural conditions that enable the free and equal practice of political self-determination.

Our 'leaders' want us to believe we live in a democracy. They want us to believe that we are truly free. It's nothing but fucking propaganda. We live in a plutocracy. Facts: The median net worth of members in congress ($1,008,000) is 9 times that of the ordinary American. 21 congressional democrats have average assets of more than $10 million. Congress members are paid a salary of around $174,000 compared to the median income of $49,000 for the typical American. Several are multi-millionaires. The median net worth for senators is $2.7 million.

The corrupt system of plutocracy is supported and propped up by lawmakers who profit from its continuance. Removing money from politics is not something they will ever do willingly. The person with the largest warchest and advertising budget is the person that will usually end up winning an election. They build their warchests by receiving donations from corporations, private individuals and other entities that seek to buy favorable treatment should their candidate win. This system needs to DIAFF. Here are a few ideas to help dismantle the bogus system of plutocracy that passes for democracy in this nation:

* Each candidate will have a limited advertising budget, enforced by law, from which to draw from. The candidate's party can pay for it all, or the individual can contribute from his own funds. The maximum budget will be low enough so as not to prevent lesser know political parties or less wealthy candidates to get their name in the mix.

* A limited number of paid dinners and speeches for those actively seeking election or reelection. A cap on how much can be charged per guest until a certain predetermined amount has been reached. The main goal of politics should not be to profit, its what we're trying to remove from the equation.

* All political contributions by corporations, individuals and other entities will become published common knowledge.

We should also create a system to discourage career politicians and make them do the job they are paid to do. Here are some ideas:

* You work 9-5. You get 2 weeks off per year for vacation, just like most of the rest of us.

* You read EVERY law that you want to pass or repeal, word for word, publicly with all senators/representatives present at the time of reading.

* Every law you pass it will apply to you as well.

* Your salary will be cut in half to bring it more in line with the actual value you provide to the nation.

* You will not recess when vital legislation is being debated until the debate is resolved.

* Taxpayers will NOT pay for your travel expenses except for those that are vital. Everyone else has to pay to drive to work. So will you.

* You will forfeit your financial privacy so that greater transparency can be achieved.

* Once in office, you are forbidden to receive ANY donations from corporations, private individuals or other entities that try to influence government. You will not receive any donations from your party as well. Get a job on the side if you want. Otherwise you will live on your political salary.

Wealthy, entrenched politicians have no reason to deal with issues that affect ordinary Americans, like high gas prices, unemployment, and bandit corporations like Goldman Sachs that harm the economy. In fact they are bribed by industries and corporations to look the other way so that these industries/corporations can prey on the economy without any consequences. These politicians don't represent the average American. To achieve a legitimate democracy and rid ourselves of the plutocracy we have been conditioned to accept, we need to get more ordinary Americans into office to represent the interests of the people.
