From his article "Rating the coaching hires: ..."

Here's how I ranked the hires …

1. Chris Petersen, Washington: By interviewing at USC and taking U-Dub, CP told the world that the BCS era is officially over at Boise. His move indicates it will be hard for the Boise States of the world to emerge in the new playoff era.

Why?

• We're kind of numb to Cinderellas. Central Florida beating Baylor was as good as it got in the BCS bowls last season.

• The new College Football Playoff era is going to make it more difficult for Cinderellas to emerge. The decision is now subjective for the best team in the Group of Five (MAC, Mountain West, Conference USA, Sun Belt, American) to emerge.

Petersen had maxed out at Boise State. His 8-4 record in 2013 was his "worst" with the Broncos. It was just ... time.

Washington becomes the winner in the CP sweepstakes. Look for the Huskies to rise to a new level.

10. Steve Sarkisian, USC: Putting the band back together continues at Troy.

Sark is the safe choice for AD Pat Haden, but is he the right choice? Hours after popular Ed Orgeron told the Trojans he was not being retained, Sarkisian won over the players in his first meeting. That was key.

Sark will be able to coach/lure quarterbacks. Restoring USC to a championship level in a vastly improved Pac-12 is a taller order.

No mention of Joey's, sizzle, or In n Out Burger, but he rates USC as making the 10th best hire of the season. By "winning over the players", is he referring to all the USC players who left early for the NFL?

I'm out of the loop on the Joey's thing. I take it him and other members of the staff were seen there a lot? Just how bad was it? Irregardless, this program needs a classier individual, and not the fake kind that would work on his golf swing during practice.

Sark won over the players here too, which is why we sucked. Players must fear the head coach on the field and be family off It. That formula works and is similar to CP'S philisophy.

There will be no "rap-offs" with coach at practice, no bullshit 'shuckin and jivin' like idiots during practice to hip hop and at games (which completely disrespects the opposition and former husky teams), no dude-brah hat's being worn at games. There will be plenty at SC and 7-6 will be the result.

Will SC win the South by going 7-6 (5-4) though?

The players do and did (USC) fear Carroll- in a different way.

My brother in law played at USC under Carroll but was recruited by Hackett... Carroll has a way with players/coaches without screaming and physical intimidation. He was and still is cutthroat when it comes to personnel.

His ignorance to depth charts each week is one that gets many players attention...
