1. John Donovan is an complete moron. If you can't run the ball, then stop running the ball, its really not that hard. Our passing game is actually good, and yet our offense sucks because our offensive coordinator refuses to pass. As long as he is the offensive coordinator we will not have a consistent offense, this type of incompetence is not something that can be fixed in a week.

2. Coach K gets his ass handed to him by David Shaw every year. Never matters how bad Stanford is playing, they run power and throw 50-50 balls to tall people all day, and we can't stop it. You would think after all these years we would start the game expecting this. The lack of depth in the front 7 is pretty bad, but we hold Coach K to a high standard. The hypothetical best D coordinator in CFB should be able to figure out something against a bad Stanford team.

3. Jimmy Lake coaches like an arrogant idiot. Most of the problems with John Donovan are Jimmy Lake problems too. If you want to be good in 2020 you can't coach like its 1990. You can't run I formation. You can't run the ball every 2nd & 10. You have to go for 4th downs when your defense can't get a stop. You have to go for 2 when you're down 9. You would think a young coach would be interested in modern football, and maybe understand math. But Jimmy Lake coaches like a 75 year old who the game has passed by. Its hard to see this getting better.

Sure there are some players who could be playing better, but this is a complete failure on the coaches.

I've long maintained that all football coaches should be required to play Madden X number of times a week, not because you really learn anything about football from it, but because it puts you in those decision making/clock management positions many multiples more times than you get just from coaching real games. I think many basement dwellers here can attest that we were way ahead of the curve on 4th down decision making, time out usage, and general situational awareness that has crawled towards progress in the last decade or so.

I would have thought Jimmy might have been young enough to have played lots of Madden just as a matter of physics, but apparently not, or if so, old fucktards have beaten his instincts out of him.
