Running Backs Suck

I can see doing a power run thing if you have a really good RB or two, but Christ, our top 2 in the rotation just cannot carry the load. The OL cannot make up for their weaknesses.

McGrew does a couple nice things and has some edge speed but he's probably the 8th-10th best back in the league.
Pleasant does a couple nice things every game, but see above.
Newton, who the fuck knows anymore.
Davis: the only guy that flashes above average burst and power at the same time.

Why you think you need to handoff to these guys 40 times between the tackles in order to set up 3-5 good play action plays is just stupid.

And Stanford gave up 269 yards rushing to Cal last week, who sucks on offense.

Davis also has shown ++ hands. He's potentially a real stud. The depth chart is almost inverse to what my eyes are seeing.

I definitely have not been of the mind that Pleasant is "Zeke-esque," which I think was someone's assessment on here.

O line got used and abused 2 weeks in a row in the run game. Big problem right there

I think people dont want to admit this because they dont wanna rip Kamari and Sean cuz theyre good kids. But this is Baccelia Fuller all over again, Pleasant is improved, but he is not a #1 back by any means. We have had stud RBs for over a decade until Gaskin left, Rankin, Polk, Sankey, Washington, Coleman, Gaskin.... then we had the Salvon year, never preformed close to the others before. Now its Pleasant and McGrew... Let me ask you, how confident in any game are you Pleasant can/will get 100 yards? that should be the standard for UW RBs. "We have 4 starters" really means "we have 4 backups". And we continue to make excuses and stunt Cam Davis growth, young RBs do great a lot of the time, Cam Davis is the one dude who can give us a complete/explosive run game and they give him >4 carries a game, he is the future of that RB room, dont waste him on the bench and have him be learning to play next season. No idea whats going on with Newton, if its really performance, he misses plays but he brings energy and he makes plays the others dont, we need his shit talking crazy ass out there... Davis is the one complete back, play any of the other 3 and you are limiting yourself offensively because well, Mcgrew is the only one with big play potential and he is 5'6 so with him your short game is impaired. I do like Adams, Sunday and Berry, but you really need elite play at RB if youre going to win big boy games, feed Davis and invest in the future. RB and MLB play are so important and both those rooms and coaches have shat the bed so many times they could have been fired years ago... can Jimmy fire his friends? KB is plus sized Jimmy Lake JR, feel like KB and Jimmy are very very close friends, does he have the balls? and get gregory a Lubbick job

Holy shit that’s a lot words for a paragraph.

I think JonDon has gradually fixed some things with this offense, like commiting more to outside running. But too little too late, too slowly.

Also, who wears a "Runn the Damn Ball Hat" and then gets stuffed on the ground by Utah and Stanford? I feel like we're going to insist on running the ball because of that fucking hat.
Jimmy Lake has a well documented arrogance problem.

I assume a big reason why Pleasant got multiple second half carries despite not producing is they needed him in the game as the team's best pass-blocking RB.

...which they needed because they were so far behind. Which again points to a retarded scheme/game plan that got them in that position.

Our running game is absolute shit in all 3 phases. The running plays are repetitive, the interior o line is bad, and the running backs are not good (Davis shows promise).

I'd be all for a pass heavy offense from here on out.

On another note, Moorhead doesn't look any better than Donavon

Giving McGrew a few carries is fine. Pleasant shouldn’t get any.

I had a feeling this four RB shit wouldn’t work. You can’t get four guys in a rhythm. I remember USC did it after Bush/White and it hurt the rhythm of their offense. UW is doing it now with even worse backs than USC had.

Stick with two guys. Give Davis 10+ and McGrew 5. Pleasant can come in for a couple third downs, maybe two min offense since they like his blocking so much.

Take the training wheels off Morris. He’s earned it.

    Agree,

But the relatively pedestrian running game has a lot more to do with well below average run blocking by the OL than the JAG RBs and their shitty rotation.

You’d think a running backs coach would do better

Yeah the o line run blocking is some of the worst I've seen. No push, no opening holes, just snapping the ball and then falling into each other

The good news is that even Mario and his sec line suck running this year

Cal is actually better at running than either UO or UW. They practice what we run our mouth about. Cal had Stanford beat 3 ways until they turned over the game. Cal gashed the ducks but even so need passing to actually finish the drives.

You need to be good at everything to be a good team

What am I missing on Cam Davis that everyone loves him so much? Is it a stars thing?
