did the team quit on pete in the 2019 stanford game?

stanford was playing walk-ons and chemistry grad students at OL and worked us...
what was really going on? pete probably never had a team actually rebel or quit against him before

Thinking back to that team, my belief is that they had a lot of key pieces / seniors who were probably more focused on getting to the NFL than playing as a cohesive team (particularly on offense). I may be talking out my ass, but Eason, Fuller, Ahmed, Bryant, Adams, Opera and I'm sure I'm missing a few others all had stuff to prove as individuals and the clock was ticking for each of them.

Pete always dropped games to scrubs for no reason, outside of 2016. 2019 just had multiple

Last years team will forever be one of my least favorite. It was a tweeener team where the best players from the early Pete recruiting classes were gone leaving the guys who never did much as the senior leaders (Bacchelia, Fuller, Manu). The guys from the really good Pete classes were still too young. You had some guys who should have been your leaders but i don't really think wanted to be there and played like it (Trey Adams, Eason, possibly Hunter Bryant), and you had a HC who was burned out.
For me, it was that third group (including the coach) who were just going through the motions that really screwed up the season. -
What's crazy was that game was a week after we beat USC at home, probably the pinnacle of the 2019 season. The Cal game was a distant memory by that point and we were all dooging out after winning 3 straight and getting back into the top 15.

I was at the game. Sideline looked completely dead as if they were forced to be there. Worst game day experience since Owen for meBaldwinIV said:what else can explain a willingham-esque performance from a team that had ran train on the conference 3 years in a row? seriously what the fuck happened that game? try and rewatch it, you'll swear they are point shaving

The score was much closer than the game really was. That was the worst Stanford beating we'd gotten since the Sark years, and it was by far the worst Stanford team we'd faced under Pete. If we don't revenge fuck them this weekend I'm going to be pissed.

During the 2016- 18 run, Pete, only lost one game to "scrubs" - i.e., Cal in 2018. 2017 Stanford and ASU were both talented teams (at least according to the TBS feegs). 2019 was the year he lost the team and started dropping lots of games to scrubs.PostGameOrangeSlices said:Pete always dropped games to scrubs for no reason, outside of 2016. 2019 just had multiple

Stanford went 7-2 in the conference that year and finished the year #20 in the AP.
Arizona State went 6-3 and finished 2nd in the South.
They weren't great teams, but they certainly didn't "suck". Better UW teams than 2017 have lost to far worse opponents. -
Washington has quit in every game the have dropped in the Bay Area over the past few years, I would know I was dumb enough to sit through all of them in person. Never again.

I just remember screaming at the television to load the fucking box against the makeshift offensive line and 8th string quarterback. I guess they couldn't hear me.

Stanford easily has the worst game day experience / atmosphere of any major division one or professional sporting event I have ever been to. They make Cal look like a big time program. Christ the Bellevue De La Salle high school game I went to was more electric and had more fans than any game at Stanford Stadium I have ever been at.JoeEDangerously said:

The Old Pro is a good pregame sports bar but that’s about it. -
We drove down for the 91 season opener on the Farm. Those were the days that Husky fans owned your stadium if you didn't show up. We made that a home game for the DAWGS. Stayed at a great motor inn with two pools and filled with hard drinking DAWG fans.Edwin_Bambino said:

It was a great road trip. Denny Green crowned our ass after it because they let us get away 42-7. Stanford had Bob Whitfield a NFL lineman who said the Card would ruin the Husky season.WRONG.gif -
I've spent more time at Stanford than Cal but thought they were equal. Almost got into a fight with a Stanford fan leaving Old Pro after the 2011 game.Edwin_Bambino said:

Pete quit on the players, he was burnt out. He saw the writing on the wall and did the right thing and handed the keys over. He laid a solid foundation for the program.

Yeah 2017 Stanford was decent. Lots of talent (11 players drafted next two years) but somewhat underachieving. Interestingly they played 7 games decided by 3 or less points (going 3-4.) Some terrible losses but also two very good wins (us and Notre Dame the last week of the season to keep Notre Dame out of a NY6 bowl.)PostGameOrangeSlices said:

ASU on the other hand was just terrible. 6-3 in conference sure but they also lost to SDSU, Texas Tech, and NC State. Their D was 100th in the country giving up 6.1 yards per play. They gave up at least 31 points in all but two games.
UW was 17.5 point favorites in that game and somehow managed to get shutout until finally scoring a TD with 5:32 to play. -
Some of my least favorite recent memories involve Stanford. Last year, the FS1 truck race, DeCastro-Garnett-Serrell and so on
