Playoff committee likely won't look too kindly on bitching out of a game with a real opponent when given an opportunity and sticking with this because it means you're undefeated and "deserving" a chance at the playoffs:
BYU gets to 10-0 they can run the paper tiger argument that they deserve to be part of the CFP but in a year like this full of reduced schedules it becomes hard to argue that they aren't deserving of a NY6 game
They are being as opportunistic as they can in terms of making sure that they get paid ... which I can respect
But when you dodge games that expose what you're real interests are you also lose the right to bitch down the road

Why not? Didn’t they win a natty using thIs selfsame strategy?
I think they know they are not playoff worthy. But they don't want to lose out on NY6 money if they think they can squeeze in.
I suspect they are waiting to see if they are below Cincy in Playoff rankings. If so, their interest in improving their schedule would likely increase. By that point I'm guessing it'll be too late.

Pros:
Zach Wilson has a big day and is a legit Heisman contender.
Maybe you win and back your way Into the playoff convo.
Cons:
You get embarrassed. This is the most likely scenario and everything they thought they had is gone.
It’s a needle dick move and they are created a lot of bad press for it right now. Could backfire all together. I love train wrecks.
