The score was 37-0. UW outgained Arizona 392 yards to 66 yards. UW had 5 sacks and had allowed 1. And UW had a 30:30 to 14:30 time of possession advantage.
“I’ve said it for awhile and I’m sure journalists just go ‘what is he talking about’, but we want to run a pro-style offense where we can always keep you off-balance. We can throw it if we want to throw it, and we can run it if we want to run it. That gives defensive coordinators headaches. I know. I know because when I used to go against it, especially when I was at the NFL level, that is very hard to go against. And so, that is what I’ve always wanted to implement if I ever had an opportunity to become a head football coach. So here it is. And we still got a long ways to go, we still have a lot of improvement that we can still make. But I really like where we are at right now, especially with a young quarterback only in his second start. And you know some other guys around him, also true freshman, you know, that are out there. Some young offensive linemen that just had their second start as well. We still have a lot of improvement, which is exciting.”
UW’s run-pass distribution was 45/26, one week after going 51/24 against Oregon State. The Huskies took more shots downfield and let Morris get loose a bit but still relied on a punishing, downhill running game.
“We are massive up front,” Lake said. “We’re tough. We’re smart — again, physical. Watching those guys do combos, moving up to the next level, blowing linebackers off the ball — it is a sight to see. And they’re also pass protecting, giving Dylan time to throw the ball, giving a nice clean pocket to throw out of.”
Lake on the Defense:
“That was one of the keys of the game (stopping the run), and it was one of the keys of the game in our first game but we didn’t achieve it. And we talked a lot about that all week long. Our d line unit, our outside linebackers, and our linebackers really stepped up to the plate and they took it over. I was looking up there and for awhile it said -17 rushing at one point. They got some yards there late, but when you can make a team one dimensional and make them throw it, it becomes really really difficult to call plays.
Lake on the special teams:
“They were on fire tonight. We had a big heart to heart last week. Our kickoff team and myself and the rest of our coaching staff. And those guys played the way they’re supposed to play tonight. And now that is the standard, that is the standard. That’s what we have to see on kickoff every time we kick off. We have so much speed on this team, and Kyler Gordon, nobody can block that guy. I don’t care who you put out there on kickoff, nobody can block that guy. And I’m expecting him to do that on every kickoff from here moving forward.
One of the big narratives for the season was seeing what the on-field product was going to look like given that there's clearly been a smear campaign out there on the recruiting trail. Easiest way to get rid of that is to put your $$$ where their mouth is.
The performance tonight was what dominant programs are suppose to do against inferior competition. In some respects, it's good to see the youth/depth get beat up a bit in the 4th quarter as that's some great teaching film not only for them but the team on the whole.
Last week vs Oregon St at this point feels like some of the limitations were tied to the weather. This obviously is what you want to see.
There's still a lot out there for Jimmy to cross off to prove that he's going to be that elite level coach. He's 2 games into things at this point and he's played inferior teams so we shouldn't crown him at this point. We'll see what happens as we start playing higher levels of competition.
But there are some definite encouraging signs:
Big jump from Week 1 to Week 2 with problem areas in Week 1 noticeably better in Week 2
Aggressive attitude throughout the game over the 1st 3 quarters ... particularly loved the putting it on film 2 point conversion up 30-0
Physicality and mindset of the program has definitely moved towards the next level ... and that's massive

My wife was able to stay in the same vicinity as me throughout the game. I only freaked out a couple times. Unheard of.
Some quick takeaways-
Cade Otton is a fucking monster. The kid is a road grader with soft hands and he'll have NFL scouts drooling.
Cam Davis has great hands, too. Morris tossed him a couple passes that were shit for placement, and he got the maximum out of the play. Plus that power run up the middle with a couple minutes to go in the half had me sporting wood.
ZTF was out of his mind last night. So fun to watch him create havoc all over the field.
The Husky D came to play. When the opposing QB looks like he's either going to cry, or he has terrible constipation, you know the defense is making life difficult on him. Until the subs came in, the defense had stoned those fuckers cold. Absolutely no production on offense.
Our WR need to clean up their drops.
Morris was cool as a cucumber. His deep ball needs a little work, but his undershorts were clean as a whistle after the game which is a nice change from the pantshitting from Browning in years past. He took care of business like a man. Nice game.
We all know Jimmy is a cocky son of a hitch that isn’t afraid to talk shit and back it up. But as we have seen these two games, the players are playing with fire and attitude. They’re celebrating tackles, celebrating good runs. They’re celebrating everything and having fun.
ZTF in a post game interview mentioned that he’s having a ton of fun out there, celebrating big plays as well as little plays where everyone did their assignment.
But not only that, they’re celebrating and having fun on Twitter. Such a change from the Pete era, and I for one and here for it.
IFL Alex Cook. Hardly saw anytime last year in his third year in the program, at a new position, with multiple younger kids in front of him. That dude had every reason to give up, quit, portal etc.
Butt he busted his ass, beat out the kids, is playing his ass off, smoking ball carriers and talking shit like Lane Kiffin. Might be my favorite kid on the team right now.

You love to see it.
It's not in fashion to complement or credit Petersen with anything, but...one of the biggest and best culture changes he brought to UW is this right here. It's no longer standard practice to write players off permanently after one or two seasons.

I sometimes forget how shitty our development was.
In Washington’s first two wins, the Huskies have averaged 250 rushing yards per game and 5.21 yards per carry — which rank 10th and 21st nationwide, respectively. They’ve possessed the ball for 74:16 out of a possible 120 minutes. They’ve converted 52% of their third downs (15th nationally) and 100% of fourth downs (4-4), and are the only team who has not turned over the ball.

Stingy with the football. That's a box you want checked.

If what I saw tonight was Lake football, I’ll take some fucking more of that. Please and thank you.

Lucky for me, I was watching this game by myself tonight....
