Gematria or gimatria (Hebrew: גימטריה, gēmaṭriyā) is a system of assigning numerical value to a word or phrase, in the belief that words or phrases with identical numerical values bear some relation to each other, or bear some relation to the number itself as it may apply to a person's age, the calendar year, or the like. The word "gematria" is generally held to derive from Greek geōmetriā, or "geometry."
The four base ciphers that are used in Gematria are:
English Ordinal - In this cipher, A=1, B=2, all the way up to Z=26.
Full Reduction - In this cipher, A=1, all the way to I=9. Since J is the tenth letter, it is reduced to 1. This continues until the last letter Z.
Reverse Ordinal - This cipher is like English Ordinal but it is reversed. So Z=1, Y=2, all the way down to A=26.
Reverse Full Reduction - This cipher is like Full Reduction but it is reversed and reduced into a single digit.
