Few people under 50 will get this. The only reason I get it is because I have a good memory. I was 9 years old when this happened.
I wasn't even alive when it happened, but I've watched the whole fight, and was probably around 10-12 when I first heard about "no mas." In my estimation, one of the most famous/infamous sporting events of all time, when the baddest man on the planet literally quits fighting in the middle of a round.
If what you say is true, I'll take it upon myself to evangelize for it. I ran across a piece of trivia the other day about Jesse Owens, and it occurred to me he's not nearly the national hero he should be. Stories like these are, to me, sports at their very best, when they actually shine a light on human nature.
