I'm not saying point shaving was going on

But I have recently watched several hours of interviews with a former high-earning capo of a mafia family. He says in recent years the mob has focused more on getting their hooks into college basketball players instead of pro players. The pro players aren't as easy to make vulnerable because they make so much money they can usually pay off their debts. But he says that the mob gets its hooks into the college basketball players quite easily, who when they get into deep gambling debt, then have to pay it off by point shaving. We all know that it happens occasionally, but this guy says it happens a lot more than the general public realizes.
When you stop and think about how much a certain Pac-12 team has monumentally underachieved, it gives one pause.
But there might be nothing to it. If I had to guess, it probably just boils down to shitty coaching and bad luck.

Point shaving would generally be done with a big favorite. A lot easier to convince a kid to try to win by less than the spread rather than throw the game.
Also don’t think Seattle would be the epicenter of illegal gambling and the mob. -
Never ascribe to malice that which can easily be ascribed to incompetence.

Or a huge underdog. Instead of losing by 30, why not 35?FremontTroll said:Point shaving would generally be done with a big favorite. A lot easier to convince a kid to try to win by less than the spread rather than throw the game.

There are programs that are far bigger targets to this line of thinking than UW
