A "polar vortex," as one meteorologist calls it, is caused by a counterclockwise-rotating pool of cold, dense air. The frigid air, piled up at the NORTH POLE, will be pushed down to the U.S., funneling it as far south as the Gulf Coast.

I'm not sure whether a 30 year climatic trend is statistically significant. I'm absolutely sure that one storm, or even one winter, is not significant. Just as the hurricane season of 2005 was not significant.
But by all means, please keep up the play by play. -
It appears all those "more severe weather" predictions were way off base.
