Sounds like a lot of Freshmen and Sophomores will be starting in the PAC-12 this season.
A group of Pac-12 football players from multiple schools is threatening to opt out of both preseason camps and games until its negotiations with the league regarding concerns about racial injustice, their safety during the coronavirus pandemic and other demands are completed.
I’m not sure what is worse, that list of demands or the fact the Pac-12 will actually try and give in and act on the non-Covid stuff.
No shocker Ty is on there...he hasn’t been all-in on football for a while. Tryon isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed and costing himself serious $$$ if he goes along with it. It’s too politically incorrect to tell these folks to pound sand, but it may help accelerate the decision to cancel the season for the Covid.
I got no problem with saying that there are fundamentally broken issues within NCAA sports that need to be addressed
I’m also not sure I agree with any line of thought that is tied to players suggesting an education isn’t a form of compensation or any comments of systemic harm against AA athletes. Willing to be open to arguments to persuade me though.
Is it bad I think the funniest part of this list is the demand to reinstate sports at Stanford who’s participants are largely from rich, white families (rowing...fencing...synchronized swimming...sailing...etc) in the name of social justice?

Poor people being duped into fighting for the rights of rich people is the American way
Been saying for years that’s the most straightforward solution. Axe title 9, turn the non rev sports into club sports, provide a standard base salary to p5 football and basketball players with that pot.
I was led to believe on this bored that Emmert, Scott, and Jen Cohen were all terrible - but now I’m to understand from this thread the players themselves are even worse?
Sounds like a situation that isn’t sustainable and should be completely blown up

Right just eliminate title 9. Rather easily. No one will care

I don’t think people know what Titke IX is.
Do people really think it’s is about scholarships? There is a lot more to it. They aren’t going to reduce women’s participation because Ty Jones wants to be paid money.

The irony of the situation is that, for the purpose of reducing discrimination in college athletics, they want to repel the very law that outlaws discrimination in federally funded programs.

Don’t think it’s that ironic. Like a lot of legislation, it was passed with good intentions at a time when legislation was needed. As times have changed, the regulation has become more and more outdated.
