Rock pretty much goes off a cliff after 1996. So I'm starting to work backwards from 1990 now until these shit poles meet up with the ones from the 70's.

1990 had some personal favorites for me, but still, a fairly soft year overall.

I was trying to figure out how to admit I was among those smitten with a certain Queen of Country Pop in 1997 since the rock didn't, uh, impress me much.
    (counterpoint: that face/body, tho...)

The 80's is no man's land for rock also.

Hard disagree. There were some very strong years in the 80s.

There is no world where Uncle Tupelo has two albums worthy of best of the year poles.

Social Distortion's self titled album, Soundgarden Screaming Life and AiC's Facelift deserve mention here too.

JFC I love "Sea of Sorrow"...
And your entire post in general. Very good year; haven't been able to choose yet.
