I had the Madden where you could take Dan Marino and keep throwing deep bombs, and Mark Clayton would get 15 yards behind the cornerback for easy touchdowns.

Football game should be 2d and designed so that players don't need to cycle through the on field personnel one at a time.

I've convinced myself for awhile now that some indie game studio could go make a football game with modern 2-d graphics. You don't even need to rip off the NCAA school logos, just specify the state each team is in and make the colors similar, put in a recruiting/management sim as a mini-game, make it 20-25$ on all platforms and it would crush sales.
