To show you how fast things move on this issue, a friend of mine's place of employment contracted with a high profile public speaker two weeks ago, to give a speech to their entire company (couple thousand people) to verbally berate the white folks for their white privilege and racism. They are paying this speaker a significant chunk of cash for this hour long speech. This was all set up in "honor" of Juneteenth.PurpleThrobber said:https://www.npr.org/2020/06/19/879647898/calls-to-make-juneteenth-a-federal-holiday-gain-momentum

Since that time there has been a big push for employers to give their employees Juneteenth off. They now can't get out of the deal for the speech, so they are telling their employees that they can still take the day off if they like but they are strongly encouraging everyone to listen to the speech and use it to reflect on the inequality and racism faced by minorities in America.
Oh yeah, while blacks have reclaimed their role as the left's premier victim group all "victims" are being lumped in here. LGQTB, Hispanics, blacks, illegals they are all victims of the racist America. -
What’s funny about the whole make Juneteenth a holiday thing is that Obama tried and failed when he was a senator, and then had 8 years where he could have done it with the stroke of a pen, but didn’t.

So why is Juneteenth celebrated as the end of slavery in the US? Slavery was still legal in KY and DE until Dec 18, 1865.

You mean Joe Biden's home state?YellowSnow said:So why is Juneteenth celebrated as the end of slavery in the US? Slavery was still legal in KY and DE until Dec 18, 1865.
(irony not lost on Mitch McConnell's home state either) -

But will people remember to thank the republicans and give the dems the finger?
-
Correct. But still I’ve seen numerous articles indicating that the day celebrates the free of the last enslaved people which isn’t quite accurate.RaceBannon said:

The Los Angeles Angels (translation: the the angels angels) are reconsidering their mascot as it pays undue tribute to agents of Islamophobia and warmongering.GrundleStiltzkin said:MikeDamone said:

I think they should remove all names from everything - schools, streets, buildings, EVERYTHING - and start numbering them, of course ,omitting numero uno as it offends some folks. Would also have to stop When it gets close to 1,000,000. Largest number 999,999 - then start over at 2v1.

Agreed. And just use bar and QR codes.LebamDawg said:I think they should remove all names from everything - schools, streets, buildings, EVERYTHING - and start numbering them, of course ,omitting numero uno as it offends some folks. On second thought the letters QR could be offensive to pole smokers, so let’s just stick with barcodes. -
