ETHEL, Ohio (WKRC) - Big-city issues arrived in small-town Ohio as Black Lives Matter demonstrators faced off with counter-protesters.Monday evening in Bethel, people with baseball bats and firearms appeared to be in no mood to hear what demonstrators had to say. About 10 Black Lives Matter demonstrators standing downtown with signs were immediately met by about 150 counter-protesters.There was a rumor swirling through town that two busloads of protesters were on their way to little Bethel, so locals were ready. There was a lot of yelling back and forth and law enforcement did its best to keep verbal confrontations from turning violent. This all started Sunday afternoon with what was meant to be a peaceful demonstration started by a local woman. Video posted on social media showed things becoming less than peaceful as about 800 counter-protesters met the 80 or so demonstrators, ripping signs from their hands. In some cases, there were assaults.
“It breaks my heart to see the division that we had in this town yesterday,” said Pastor James Taylor. The local minister also runs a day care, which he decided to close down early Monday afternoon, fearing more unrest. “We just don’t want our kids around here if all this stuff starts happening again today that happened [Sunday]."Early in the day, a lone protester on Bethel’s main drag Held a sign, showing her town she didn’t appreciate what she heard Sunday.“They were throwing around the N-word like it was candy and it just upsets me,” said Alicia O’Connell. “I have four mixed-race children and I don’t stand for that.”“To be inundated with the hate was overwhelming,” Alicia Gee said. She organized Sunday’s demonstration. She says her sign with scripture was taken and destroyed. “They just ripped it out of my hand. And then I picked up another one and they ripped it out of my hand.”“They need to get out of this city. This isn’t the city to do it,” said Nate Fox, while holding his assault-style rifle.“Nate, what are you doing?“ Local 12 asked.“Trying to protect our city.““I noticed you have a semi-automatic rifle here. Why do you feel compelled to wear it?““Well, if anything happens and I might need it, I got it on me.“The mayor certainly hoped he wouldn’t need it but says he’s not surprised world issues have arrived in his small town.“I think this is a national thing that small communities need to think about,” said Jay Noble. “And I think they need to be prepared to be involved in support of the First Amendment.”Lots of people were exercising their First Amendment rights in Bethel Sunday and Monday. The police chief says there will be arrests due to assault, criminal mischief and destruction of property that he and his officers witnessed. As of 6:30 Monday night, it did not appear further arrests would be necessary, but state police, sheriffs deputies and local police officers were doing their best to keep heated discussions from turning violent.Bethel is implementing a 9 p.m. curfew throughout the village MondayRalph Lenehan

Mayor Cheryl Selby made the comments after her home was vandalized on Friday with Black Lives Matter graffiti though she already displayed support for the movement.
"I'm really trying to process this," the mayor said Saturday to the Olympian. "It's like domestic terrorism. It's unfair."
The vandalism was a part of a protest that turned to rioting in downtown Olympia. Businesses were vandalized with spray paint, flags were burned, and windows were smashed. Then they marched into Selby's neighborhood.

Sounds like the defenders lacked comportment and were the problem not the BLM team
Maybe but after what's happened comportment is out the window.
