A police strike in all major cities would be really interesting right now

In response to defund the police.

Food for thought, hypotheticals and such.

I'd venture the protests would immediately end, mostly because it would be the best political response. "See the police weren't around and everything went back to normal." That being said, an extended strike would be interesting. Shit in Minneapolis will start to get interesting. It has to be tough right now for the police forces, I mean utter exhaustion with hours of constant vigilance.

If they strike It'll be like the move "The Purge" pretty quick in some places.

I think you overestimate most people. No police and some people start going full Escape From New York. The Snake Pilsons are armed in the suburbs this time, though. Bring it.

Oh I know there will be a a percentage that goes nuts but I'd expect it to be small, but small groups can do a lot of damage. Agreed about the suburbs.

Just decided to run simple numbers. Note not totally able to take into account mixed race but here are the interesting numbers:

Black Americans are 13.4% of the population so roughly 44,086,000.
There are roughly 800,000 police officers in the US, spread over just about 17900-ish agencies.
In 2019 there were 14 Unarmed deaths of black Americans, and 249 total, so 235 deaths of armed, by police in 2019.
That equates to 1 in 3,149,000 unarmed black Americans killed by police. For all armed and unarmed it is 1 in 177,052 of Black Americans are killed by police.
In 2019 there were 48 felonious deaths of police officers, or 1 in roughly 16,667 police were killed in 2019. There were 41 officer related deaths to accidents.

To be fair, black people basically made up 25% of police officer related deaths, which is higher than their percentage of the population.

    2019 numbers:
    1003 Total Deaths by Cop
    405 White - 40%
    249 Black - 25%
    163 Hispanic - 16%
    41 Other - 4%
    145 Unknown - 15%

Maybe sheds some light why cops are so defensive of the actions of the few. Police are disproportionately killed by the populous.

I do support changes in unions, and ability to weed out bad cops. Much like I do for the rest of government.
