Anaheim (Calif.) Servite tight end Keyan Burnett is one of the top targets on Arizona’s recruiting board, but there is plenty of competition.

"Recruiting has been great,” Burnett said. “I have been building relationships across the board, so it has been good. Both Arizona schools, USC, Washington, and Nebraska are the schools I am hearing from the most.”

As Burnett listens to the schools recruiting him, he has a good idea of what he is looking for.

“I am looking at what role I will have in their offense and where they will use me,” he said. “If they have a player right now that they can use to show me, that is great too.

“I like a lot of two tight end offenses with two tight ends in the box and sometimes tight ends split out.”

Arizona is in a unique position because Keyan’s father Chester Burnett played linebacker for the Wildcats.

“My dad went to Arizona,” Keyan said, “It’s a great school and they have a great new coaching staff. They are definitely high on my list and I look forward to building relationships with them. I have been talking to everybody. Coach Fisch and Coach Paopao the most.”

Covid has forced Burnett to take a different route with his recruitment, but he is talking to coaches as much as possible in order to get a feel for the schools recruiting him.

“It’s tough right now not being able to see any campuses,” he said. “I am trying my best to go on virtual visits and talk with these coaches.

“I have visited USC before. I want to go to campuses. I am going to go to Washington and the Arizona schools just to see the campuses. It’s hard to make a decision when you have not seen the campus.”

As far as a decision goes, Burnett does not plan to drag out his recruitment.

“I will probably decide the end of this month, if not March,” he said. “I want to pick a school and get accustomed to the way things go there. I want to get a head start.”
