Conspiracy theory is just a way to discredit something you are too lazy to actually discredit, It sounds scary and stupid.

We conspire every day with people of like mind to reach a common goal. That's not sinister its life. If someone fucks up in a lab the lab is going to come together and cover it up. That is a conspiracy. Not the Illuminati. Just your everyday ass covering we see all the tim

I believe it and believed it the moment it came out. I also believed as quite plausible the version of it that had the bioweapon spin. Because it's all plausible.

To be clear, there are all kinds of conspiracy theories. A lot of them. I think we all mean by that term the shit that the tin foil hat crowd comes up with. Like Pizza Parlor Child Porn rings. A quarter of all the people I know in Aberdeen are making Alex Jones rich with vitamin purchases and post shit every day that starts with "Shit's gettin' real; get your ammo now while you can." I'm not making that up.

There are conspiracy theories and there are actual conspiracies. I think there are plenty of both. I think there are plenty of the latter in China.

Btw, I'm still mad as hell at @RoadDawg55 because China.

Personally with regard to China, I wouldn't even call this shit conspiracy theories. More standard operating procedure.

It's entirely possible. It's also entirely possible it came from a bat. People being stupid isn't really a conspiracy, though. It's just everyday life.

Is the conspiracy that the Chinese released the virus intentionally?

Even suggesting that the virus came from a Chinese lab in late February and early March would get you labeled as a conspiracy theorist.

I know some people will want to point to the Fox news article linked within, but let's not forget that it was Grundle who first brought this to the mainstream and gave it legitimacy.

I knew this back in February.

Not by me. I bought it the very first time I heard it. And at the time, I was buying the bio-weapon version, which I assume, but don't know for a fact, has not been entirely dismissed.

It will be fun to watch the Coronabros root for an economic crash from the sidelines

Anybody rooting for this crash isn't liberal or leftard or feelings or whatever. You have to be certifiably insane to root for this, because as many are discover for the first time, we are all connected in this economy, and unless you're a nurse or a doc on the front line of this thing you are fucked eventually. Even the hospitals will eventually run out of money because nobody will be able to pay them.

Sorry, my feet are taped to the pedals on this: you cannot shut down the entire country and keep people home. I've been home for 1.75 months now (we were early to flee). Sure, we got caught with our pants down. I don't blame Trump. Any sitting Prez would have been caught unprepared for this. So now we've had a month to deal with PPE production and hospital capacity (which, as Washington is proving, is a temporary issue). We should be ready for another spike. If we're not by now, we all deserve to bite it.

Either way, time to get back to work. This cannot be sustained much longer. Our economy doesn't work that way, and the other system is far less capable than ours at dealing with scarcity and allocating resources in a rational and sustainable way.

There's no fucking choice here. Give it another week for shits and grins and call it.

While one can't rule anything completely out—because science of course—the bio-weapon angle appears highly unlikely, and even more so as an intentional release of a bio-weapon.

Countries including our own aren't investigating killer viruses for no reason

If China fucked up that's one thing. Intentionally and its World War Three. I believe a bio attack gets nukes in return under our doctrine

    We want to be careful

One big reason why intentional bio-attack can be essentially ruled out.

The version that came to me was that it was a lab that does virus study for, among other purposes, bio-weapon dev, and that it was accidentally released. Not sure I ever read that it was purposeful. I assumed a Chinese lab would not release a bio-weapon in Wuhan to get things started. But then again, the Chinese have not always been nice to their own people.

Agreed. We can't share the planet with people who will do stupid shit like that. With free people who travel, any bio war is almost instantly a global war.

Senator Cotton has been pushing the Chinese lab angle since January and every liberal rag from the NYTimes and the Washington Post have trashed him for it.

Oh, I've seen plenty of REAL conspiracy theories that it was deliberately developed and intentionally released as a weapon. Complete nutter. Beyond that, who knows the ChiCom motivation to mess with this stuff, and there are many non-exclusive motivations, some legitimate, some not. Chief among the legitimate, it seems like 81% of every malignant pestilence comes out of their backyard.

China could release a virus in the Muslim camps out west and cover it up

I'm not saying they did. They could
