Cristobal has championship DNA. He's seen it done, with a few exceptions, everywhere he has been. He is the best test of whether an NC can be won in Eugene.

Disagree.
Oregon saw their best chance already. They had a small window under Chip where they were schematically ahead of every team in the country. Had they not choked at home against Stanford, Oregon beats Notre Dame by 2-3 touchdowns in the Championship game to win the title.

Not so sure. He may have been schematically ahead of the rest for a time, but he wasn't recruiting at an elite level. He also ran a system that was predicated on getting out of the blocks and overwhelming other teams who, before they knew it, were down 3 TDs. It didn't work so well when that didn't happen. I'm not saying they weren't good. They were. That win against a very good Wisconsin team in the Rose Bowl was solid.
But if he continues to recruit at a high level and, importantly, continue focusing on being physical on both sides of the ball, then they have as good a shot, or better, than they've ever had. Being able to run the ball to stay or get out of trouble is still a fundamental advantage in football.

Probably, but that 2013 season was set up perfectly. Notre Dame went into that title game against Alabama as the most overrated undefeated team in modern history. Had Oregon beat Stanford that night, it would have been Oregon and not Alabama in that game. I was responding to "Cristobal being the best test". I'm saying Oregon already proved they could without Cristobal, given a perfect storm. The 2013 season was that perfect storm until they choked.

Good post.
I'll take the L here. The fact that Oregon played in 2 NC games is enough indication that a NC could/can be won in Eugene.
Chip and Oregon were playing football on a different planet than everyone else during a very narrow window and missed their best shot.
Let me move the goalposts. Cristobal is the test of whether or not truly elite talent can be recruited to Oregon and consequently win a NC.

You guys best Wisconsin. He’s doing a good job, but no, he’s not the best test of whether a NC can be won. You were better with Chip and a lot closer back then.

GTFO. Sample size of 2 years?
Chip didn't recruit like Cristobal, and walked into a program that didn't need a rebuild. Kelley was a good coach, but come on.

Nailed it. I have never thought a team that is so geographically disadvantaged as Oregon could win titles by sheer talent. Hoping Mario can prove me wrong.

In 2012 they were unbeaten but on probation
In 2013 they were unbeaten but lost to Michigan State in title game. They too wanted that spot against Notre Dame
2014 they beat Bama and the ducks

They're up there with some really great teams. Roster was fucking loaded.
Let's just say it's best Ohio State team I can remember and leave it at that.
Also, don't forget that we're all really mad at you right now because Coronavirus.
