FDA to humans: ‘You are not a horse’

Experts are sounding the alarm against humans, including Oklahomans, taking medication formulated for animals in response to a discredited COVID-19 cure floating around the internet.
“You may have heard that it’s okay to take large doses of ivermectin. That is wrong,” the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned in a consumer update. “No form of ivermectin has been approved to treat or prevent COVID-19.”
For Twitter followers, the FDA put it this way: “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, y’all. Stop it.”
The warnings follow multiple reports of patients who have required medical treatment and have been hospitalized after self-medicating with ivermectin intended for horses, according to the FDA. The increase in incidents is attributed to the drug being falsely touted as a COVID-19 treatment by some right-wing news organizations and promoted across social media.
