You can't evict deadbeat renters 5/12 of the year in Seattle now

Can't wait until they make evictions illegal period.

Should help keep rents low.
-
Property manager value just went up.
-
Pay rent in October. Free rent until March. Winning!
-
Not really. Owners will just sell, as they already have been for some time. That's actually the worst overall outcome for all.MisterEm said:Property manager value just went up.

Sure they will. They will charge more for the extra bureaucratic nonsense, and likely add extra security "type" deposits.BleachedAnusDawg said:

Also, rental market will not appreciably chance with or without the law.

This is hysterical, and it's going to inevitably waste taxpayer money as the city defends itself and likely loses to any suit challenging this law. I'm no fan of Durkan, but Christ you have to feel for her coming to work and trying to deal with these chucklefucks every single day.
-
Playing the pretend rental market is almost like pretend market or political analysis the Tug covets. Almost...
Even with the market tax in the metro, I'd take another Seattle rental in a nano-second. With or without this new "law." -
Will landlords be exempt from paying property taxes during that same period? Seems only fair.
-
Everything the leftist touch turns to shit. This will be no exception if it's passed.GreenRiverGatorz said:This is hysterical, and it's going to inevitably waste taxpayer money as the city defends itself and likely loses to any suit challenging this law. It's also a myth that the people living outside in the winter are doing so because of addiction. If there are any it's an extremely small number.

"Move-in fees" ordinance in Seattle restricts how much you can charge for deposits.MisterEm said:

The data I'm tracking is that small landlords are selling. Purchasers of single family rentals are owner-occupiers because there are no SF properties in the city with a cap rate that makes it feasible to rent. So those units are lost from the market. Other smaller and older buildings are being sold to developers who tear the buildings down to take advantage of upzoned parcels. All this stuff does is exaggerate rent increases.
Anyways, the real issue here is that the voters of the city continue to elect people like Sawant. I don't blame the Council. They're doing exactly what they said they would do if elected. The people who vote in Seattle are the real fucktards. -
Durkan is a coward and just as bad as Council. She supports this. Her forward facing quotes are cover. I know this for a fact.GreenRiverGatorz said:This is hysterical, and it's going to inevitably waste taxpayer money as the city defends itself and likely loses to any suit challenging this law. There has been a bill in Olympia to exempt landlords from paying property taxes if their units rent at an "affordable" level. Frank Chopp won't let it see the light of day.georgiaduck said:Will landlords be exempt from paying property taxes during that same period? Seems only fair.

I mistyped. I meant because of eviction, not addiction. Addiction and mental illness are the issue, not people just down on their luck for a bit.TurdBomber said:

When I first moved to LA in the late 1980s the homeless population were said to be out of work aerospace workers. That excuse was still in use until the mid to late 1990s when it became a combination of unemployed aerospace workers, people displaced by the LA Riots and the 1994 Earthquake. I shit you not, leftist would tell me with a straight face that these were the people, along with Iraq war vets who made up the homeless population.MikeDamone said:

So basically every apartment complex will need to be subsidized by the government. If I owned a building I would required at least a 4 month deposit.

If I lost all of my income this afternoon I would still never be homeless....unless I decided to spend all day at the bar.SFGbob said:

I'm starting to think you have to be mentally weak or ill to want to live in a "progressive" city anymore. Give me all the booze, guns, sluts, farm accidents and fun the rural areas have to offer and I think I'm happier than living in Seattle anymore.BleachedAnusDawg said:

I got laid off once. Was a man of leisure for like a year. Smoked a lot of weed and talked shit. Didn’t get hooked on hard drugs and become homeless. It’s not that hard.MikeDamone said:
