I understand why some would feel that way because of Apple Cup domination, but I think that’s pretty unlikely. Leach has been really good for almost 20 years while constantly playing with inferior talent than essentially every conference opponent he’s ever faced. This guy could in fact be a good coach for them, but I think it’s highly improbable that he’s even as good as Leach. The cougs recent history is a sharp outlier from their total history.

Probably more of the same. 6-9 wins, good offense, wet napkin defense.

I think that’s fair, always going to be hard to have a defense play well with the air raid or run and shoot, but especially with the modest recruiting potential of WSU. I think Nick, being younger and probably less of an ass, will recruit a little bit better than leach and may actually care about defense. but not enough to overcome the difference in coaching ability. 5 years from now the Cougs will really miss leach.
We struggle against those spread you out pass heavy systems (air raid, run n shoot). Why the cougs have given us fits under leach. Thought we might get a coach with a more traditional/balanced offense at Wazzu. Unfortunately, no.

They had to hire for a similar offensive system, to avoid facing a really tough transition. They don’t have a single TE on roster, for example.

Smart move by them. The only other logical move would be to hire Grinch or another defensive coach and keep the same system on offense.
