I work for a medium sized software company - probably 1/20th the # of employees of amazon and we have offices in 100+ US cities including new york. This announcement means nothing. This is not a strategic move, more a tactical access to talent and a regional presence that is probably necessary to do business and conveniently work with vendors. HQ2 is a strategic labor decision - totally different. Also, at 335K square feet, these employees are going to be packed in. Likely lower-level positions, call center, etc.

As far as knowing how real world, operations work, no question. But with political storytelling, they are well matched. Even if AOC knows she's full of shit on this, and I'm not sure she does know that, she does know that even if WSJ, Fox or NYT factchecks her, her constituents and broader target audience will never see it. She won enough. Trump does the same, but AOC has a demographic advantage.
