I work for a medium sized software company - probably 1/20th the # of employees of amazon and we have offices in 100+ US cities including new york. This announcement means nothing. This is not a strategic move, more a tactical access to talent and a regional presence that is probably necessary to do business and conveniently work with vendors. HQ2 is a strategic labor decision - totally different. Also, at 335K square feet, these employees are going to be packed in. Likely lower-level positions, call center, etc.
