In another thread, someone brought up how Gilby said head coaching years are like dog years, and I definitely think there’s something to that. I watched the kick ass presser from this morning on YouTube. After it was done, Pete’s introductory press conference popped up in the suggestions, so I watched a couple minutes of it. The first time I saw Pete, I thought “Holy shit, he’s aged 15 years in his time here.” I think this job has taken a ton out of him, and I think DJ was right back in October when he said Pete was burnt out when he got here.
Pete didn’t get us to where we all hoped he would, and it’s mostly due to his own stubbornness. We’ve hashed, re-hashed, and beat the fuck out of every dead horse we can find, so I’m not going to do more of that here. Despite how frustrating he’s been at times, Chris Petersen is leaving this program in a better place than it’s ever been during a coaching transition(and fuck off if you’re going to bring up Claude Hunt taking over for Gil Dobie). This roster has a ton of talent. With some new schemes, some new energy, and the right players deciding to stay, this team could absolutely win the Pac12 next year.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Pete could have stayed on and had a similar level of success as he’s had in his 6 years here, but he’s a competitive guy, and that wasn’t good enough for him. I think he now realizes that to get to the upper echelon of college football, he’d have to bend more than he’s willing to and cut ties with some people he’s loyal to, and he’s just not willing to make those changes. While it’s frustrating to me that he’s that fucking stubborn, I respect the hell out of the man for sticking to his principles and being true to who he is. I also respect that he has the self-awareness to step away now because he knows he isn’t the right guy to take UW to the next level. I don’t know that Jimmy Lake is either, but that’s another thread.
What I do know is that Pete is a man of integrity and honor, and a really good football coach. While he’s disappointed me in some ways, as a 35 year old doog, he’s given me the most enjoyable run of Washington Husky football that I have full recollection of, and I appreciate him for that.

Lambo probably inherited a better team but the two years of probation would mitigate that
Lake takes over a team that he played a large role in recruiting. Classes are continuing to gather blue chips and this team was not as bad as they looked while blowing leads and going 7-5
Pete did bring football back and lit the fuse for high expectations once again.
it's being a father.
@RaceBannon has been around for a long time. I've heard he bought this pennant at the game for his adult grandson who was home sick.
