Pete was perfect for Boise until he lost the passion. Sadly his passion for Pac football died in 2016.RaceBannon said:Harsin is at Boise
Every coach wins big there.
That's a program. Somehow Pete decided not to do that here -
Is it really surprising that a great leader and teacher like Pete would be good at replicating himself? I don’t think he’s a great game day coach, but he’s a great CEO. That’s why I think he’s had success molding guys to become HCs. That’s also why I think there’s a decent chance Lake will be a better HC than he’s been a DC. I see Lake as a high floor kind of guy, unless he eschews everything Pete has taught him, which is highly unlikely. Best case scenario, he takes what Pete taught him, injects his own hyper-competitiveness and charisma, and fucks the Pac12 like he’s fucked Mike Leach. However, this only happens if he hires a good OC and stays the fuck out of his way. EWIWBI.YellowSnow said:Stats say Lake will suck, but I think there's plenty of reason for a cautious optimism. And frankly, I am at peace with the whole situation as I was dreading having to @FirePete in in 2020.
On the bright side, it does seem that most of Pete's former coordinators haven't sucked as head coaches.
Harsin - good
Wilcox - Looks to be good
Smith - doesn't appear to be totally incompetent -

One thing I've thought about this morning:
I am going to enjoy having a defensive minded coach again. Tend to be a tougher and more aggressive approach and personality that the team can take on.
Say what you will about not liking Jimmy's playcalls, but last year the team gave up 16 points per game. That was less points per game than any of Kwat's previous defenses at UW. This season, despite losing 9 starters and having the recruiting bermuda triangle you mentioned that left a void at LB and a lack of depth at DL, the team still only gave up 20 points per game and was 24th in the country.
If Jimmy sucked that bad at playcalls (which a few games it was apparent he wasn't adjusting), there was that big of an exodus on defense, and there were that big of holes on the roster, that's a pretty fucking good job.
Now you tell me that his strategy, swagger, and prep can go to the whole team and Kwat takes back over playcalls and in game adjustments at which he is elite?
It has me feeling pretty good about this entire thing. I didn't want Pete gone, but if he was burnt out and the team took on that attitude, then an influx of passion can set the ship back upright.
Now just hire a legit OC and overhaul the offense and stay out of it.

But did Diaz hire a legit OC, overhaul the offense and stay out it?creepycoug said:

Well, he hired AN Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator and tried to stay out of it. Had to get back involved on the defensive side, which helped on the margin, and the offense still sucks. The OC was being handed the reigns at Bamers to call the plays.CFetters_Nacho_Lover said:

So there's that. -
Diaz followed Richt who retired without telling anyone before his last season
Wait - this sounds familiar -

@creepycoug until you get your own stadium, you're never gonna win a NT again. I've been right all along.creepycoug said:

Agreed.
The elite things Pete did was building a program and getting a solid foundation without a lot of fluctuation.
What he sucked at was game management, change, and clearly staying motivated and making it fun for his players.
My hope is that Lake can use this foundation and the BFL mentality that resonates with parents as a base. But then infuses his enthusiasm, aggressiveness, and energy into it all to get the kids fired up on game days.
