    PAPN went long on this topic this week. Scott Wolf has been covering it too. Carol Folt doesn’t want Urban’s baggage, and reportedly has privately called him “radioactive.” Not surprisingly, Folt denied any overt hiring restrictions at Bohn’s intro presser this week. Helton is still the putative coach, and they played a game today. But USC is very publicity-conscious after so many scandals. If Folt doesn’t want Meyer, it’s isn’t gonna be Meyer.

    The next most obvious candidate is Franklin. With Pedo State’s loss today, USC won’t have to wait til January to get him.

    Radioactive comments are a red herring. They’re trying to get him but if they don’t they want it to appear they didn’t want him.

There are no outrageous expectations. He doesn’t have to make the college playoffs every year for that stadium to pack over 105,000 people and another 40,000 in the parking lots.

    Look at Penn State attendance, even in the dark years.

    And you do realize New York City is 200 miles from State college Pennsylvania, right?

    I’ll be shocked if USC hires Meyer. Then again....LA has absolutely no laws or rules so WTF do I know.

    You can kill/rape/ pillage.....whatever and there are no repercussions for anything

    USC is living under a microscope. If Folt had even the slightest interest in Meyer, why would she leak a "radioactive" comment?

    because she wants it to look like one of two things:

    2) she gets him and she becomes known as the most shrewd AD of all time (temporarily) because she got the greatest coach in history worked out for USC...she wins.

    This kind of public and/or leaked rhetoric is always done so it shouldn't be a surprise. Anyone remember the Nick Saban leaving Miami shit?

    Not entirely sure what the point of all this is. But Franklin is still a coach. Ego still motivates. And USC is still a more prestigious job--with a higher ceiling--than Pedo State.

    EXCEPT...

    USC plays in the Pac12 and gets relegated to the Pac12 Network while Penn State is on TV more often than Leave it to Beaver (pause) re-runs.

    USC needs to go independent as long as Larry Scott is in charge.

    It’s a little bit better job than Penn State. A good coach can win a natty at either. LA > College Station. There is probably a little more money available at USC, but both schools have deep pockets.

    This. I have it on good authority - hot blonde intern - that this is a bigger driver than most realize. USC has been embroiled with one scandal after another. It's been an embarrassing time for SC over the last 5+ years. At the same tim they've been raising $$ like crazy and trying hard to compete in the academic big leagues, which means being less Ohio State and more Duke. Having a Barry Switzer-like coach running the show is likely a thing of the past for THE University of Southern California. I don't see it based on what ive been told by said intern.

    What did Meyer even do that was SOOO bad? He was too loyal to a family friend and lied to the media. He also had criminals on his Florida teams.

    He’s just a football coach. He’s not here to change the world. He’s hired to win games. He didn’t actually do anything himself.
    He had a bad run at Florida. That stop changed his image. He was a winner but he left shit piles all over he place.
