Our tolerance of property crime in places like SFO and Seattle is fucking pathetic. This is TL;DR but interesting I think if you've had to deal with the scourge of junkie porch pirates.

in a city of Dickensian extremes like San Francisco, whose influx of tech wealth is increasingly pitting suburban expectations against urban realities.

    The bigotry of low expectations.

SFO hasn't been an affordable place to live for, at least, 3 or 4 decades right? Why do progressives think anyone has a right to live in the 2nd most expensive real estate market in the US?
And the problem isn't poverty. It's junkies. The explosion in property crimes in SF are almost all entirely due to drug addicts anyone claiming it's people trying to get money to feed their children is just lying to you.

When you allow criminality to go unchecked it only leads to more crime. Dems say lets ignore it and it will go away. Kalifornia has emptied it's prisons onto the street. They no longer incarcerate a large number of felonies and have made a large number of felonies misdemeanors which also go without any punishment. There really isn't any parole or probation anymore. Irrevocable parole. Now that's fucking funny. It's only going to continue declining.

Absolutely correct. Drugs aren't free but the needles and a "safe space" to get loaded are. Fuck these lefties are insane!

Absolutely. You can't afford food and rent no matter the cost if you're a junkie. I wrote a nasty gram to my local council member in Seattle a few months about our local bum encampments and he idiotic retort was about cost of living in Seattle forcing people onto the street. I recently donated to her opponent.

They created drug courts that would give junkies the option of going into rehab rather than being sent to jail. Even though the rehab rates of success are pathetically low. Now that the state of California no longer enforces property crimes under $900 or open public drug use, participation in these drug courts, even with their pathetically low success rates has plummeted. There is no longer any stick to compel people to go through rehab.

Quality of life for the law abiding and the people who pay the fucking bills for everything do not matter. Our job is to pay for shit and shut up.

Even the good liberals in the article believe that poor black people should be give some kind of break when they commit crime. It tells you what they really think of black folks.

We're 50+ years into the Great Society, with nothing to show for it.

What are you talking about? You've got greater rates of out of illegitimacy, you have ingrained and chronic fraud and corruption, more drug use, family breakdown, more crime, plenty to show for it.

Oh yeah, and liberals are able to feel good about themselves despite the fact that what they proposed hasn't helped and has actually made problems worse, they feel better about themselves because unlike those heartless conservatives they really "care" about people.

    You're just not very compassionate.

Sorry. I tried typing that with a straight face and just couldn't do it.

    I'd make a shitty progressive.

The truth of the matter is that the people who truly lack compassion and don't really want to help people are the ones who excuse the behavior on account of race or poverty or capitalism or any of the other fucking excuses they come up with.

People will live up or down to the expectations you have for them. There has always been dirt bag losers in every society, the difference now is that we've made it easy for the dirt bag losers to live their dirt bag loser life and shockingly, we now have an explosion of dirt bag losers among us.

Punishment, and a clear message from society that their criminal behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated and if you engage in it you will be arrested and incarcerated would be far more compassionate and help more people than what we are doing now.

People caught in a vicious cycle need to lose everything before they change, and even then it still can be not enough.

Enabling the downtrodden is the most inhumane thing you can do.

Invest in merit based institutions. Create a farm system for recovery. We're burning billions pretending the homeless are your average Joe down on his luck.

They're sick as fuck junkies and out right mental defects.

    Racist!!!

Btw, I don't recall which liberal here it was, I think it might have been Scotty but they blamed the rise in illegitimacy on the greater availability of birth control.

Kunt logic, is there anything it can't do?

At times I feel there's no other solution than to make a lot of the dirt bag losers, wards of the state- i.e., we'll put you somewhere safe with a comfy cot and 3 square meals a day and no drugs.
