Would be interesting to see what the average 3rd down distance is across the years as well as the run/pass ratio 3rd down play call.
Also stop using Bacellia (or fucking Culp) on 3rd down when the roster has Otton, Bryant, and Bynum as all very capable receivers. The roster should be converting 3rd down at a high rate rather easily.
But we've mastered the "pick up 8 yards on 3rd and 9" play.
Seriously a huge reason for this is throwing for short yardage (WR screens, dump offs to the RB) on 3rd down. Also, not trying to move the chains on 2nd and short. If we do get a nice 7 yard pickup on 1st down, we either try some high risk reverse/ sweep or throw a deep ball instead of sticking to picking up chunks of yards and getting the first down.
You’d think an NFL first round pick could pick up first downs
Locker went 4/20 against Nebraska in 2010 and was a first round pick
Exactly, shitty QBs get drafted early all the time.
@MikeDamone's hypothesis should be that Eason isnt an exceptional top QB talent AND NFL GMs and scouts are dumb and draft on potential more than anything. Not that Eason wont get drafted in the first round.
Who needs stats to tell them what their eyes have already seen? The team isn't very good because it's got weak spots in the D that other average coaches have easily exploited, especially late in games. Combine that with a sputtering, fearful offensive scheme and you've got your recipe for losing winnable games. That's UW 2019 in a nutshell.
We are missing Dick Newton. Numbers were likely better before he went down. The dude was reliable. He's arguably been one of the biggest injury losses of the season.

3rd down conversion
2016 - 44.12% (3rd pac12)
2017 - 45.39% (1st pac12)
2018 - 45.36% (1st pac12)
2019 - 35.37% (11th pac12, 106th nationally)
2019 conference games - 25.76%
This is why Gaskin is missed so much.

Simple fact.
So you're wrong
