The Trump administration has spent three years trying to help the coal industry by rolling back environmental regulations and pushing for subsidies for coal-fired power plants. Still, the long list of coal company bankruptcies has continued, and dozens more plants have announced their retirement since President Trump took office.

Now the list of bankruptcies includes a company headed by one of Trump's most vocal supporters. Murray Energy Corp. filed for Chapter 11 on Tuesday morning.

Unfortunately for President Trump, and especially coal miners, the industry has been in a secular decline
More coal-fired plants will close, other countries will lessen their dependence on coal

    Thank you Mr President

The increased natural gas is getting rid of coal and is much cleaner

Trump says 'the coal industry is back.' The government's jobs numbers say otherwise

President Donald Trump tells a rally in West Virginia his administration is putting coal miners back to work.

Government data show the United States added about 2,000 coal mining jobs since Trump took office, but economists say the change is not statistically significant.

The export-fueled bump in coal production and coal-mining employment is forecast to fade next year.

In other words there were more coal jobs

Wow if only all the coal companies filing for bankruptcy knew there were more coal mining jobs.

Trump is genius. He's instructing them to use bankruptcy laws as he has many times.

Maybe they should read up on it. How many companies have gone bankrupt?

We will get rid of coal for cleaner NG and nukes when we can.

Simple minded partisan shills don't understand this

NPR, that well known middle of the road news source spent the first half of the article trying to make Trump look bad. BO killed coal and put many out of work. Those that weren't killed by BO, were going to struggle to get past his laws and would eventually go out of business. States had a big say in the death of coal as well since they followed BO's lead. I am no huge fan of coal but that article was just a partisan hit job. Trump tried to keep jobs and you libs are celebrating the loss of thousands of livelihoods and the suffering of all those families. You all suck as human beings.

I Googled to see if there were any articles by NPR that detailed the billions the country has lost since BO spent billions to prop up the solar and wind industries. Surprise! There were none. Not even an article on Solyndra where BO wasted 500 million tax dollars to bail out his campaign donor. Six months later Solyndra went out of business and of course the taxpayers paid the tab and BO's buddy was made whole on his investment.

By not reporting both sides, lib media like NPR does a complete disservice to the country. Go nuclear and Natural Gas!

Sounds like President Trump is actually do something right, though we can all agree it's not intentional.

One thing's for sure, the knee-pad business is booming.
