Yeah there’s a good chance that the top end talent can carry us pretty far. I’m just concerned there is nobody to initiate the offense without Hop dialing up all sorts of plays. I haven’t really seen that from him yet.
If Hop’s offensive system is like Boeheim’s, don’t count on it. Syracuse is decent on offense when they have good players. They are terrible and play really ugly games a lot of years when they don’t have go to guys.
Hop's offense relied a lot on iso undersized Dickerson inside against shitty opponents and Nowell iso midrange game... I havent been particularly impressed with Hops offensive schemes even if many of the players he has had so far have had severe limitations.
I don’t think he’s a great offensive coach. It doesn’t matter too much if he recruits well and keeps the defense consistently at a high level.
I got shouted down by the early adopters for criticizing Hop’s offense. Obviously the defense is legit. And he’s recruiting at a high level with only a few local misses.
However, I want to see an offense that dictates the action. Force the defense to adapt to you. Stop passing the ball around and hoping your best player does something as the clock expires.
I’m still predicting that Stewart is our best and most consistent player rather easily. College big guys that are strong and have a high motor like Stewart are always good.
I think McDaniels will be less consistent because he’s not going to get the easy buckets and put backs that Stewart will. I think McDaniels will be good, but he will have games where he doesn’t shoot well and he’s rail thin and that will hurt him at times. I’m excited to find out.
