No one has to be a taxi driver. If you can't afford to do it, don't. Find something else to do. No one in their right mind should pay $1 million for a taxi medallion. If you do that is your own fault.
However, taxi medallion procurement and issuance has been a corrupt democrat run program for the better part of a century and it needs to stop. Enough of this bullshit. This part of AOC's speech I actually agree with but if she is demanding repayment for some of the medallion inflated and ridiculous expense, it needs to come from New Yorker's, no one else.
Just more Rat corruption. Nothing to see here......

Screw that. They made a bet and lost. The value of those medallions was always dependent on the city being able to restrict competition. Uber and Lyft blew that up. Although California once again is trying to reestablish the old order.
NYC just acted to restrict Lyft and Uber access. Ride sharing services are a clear indication that the free market will create products that the public has a desire for. Taxi services were machine politics delivered crappy service. Tired and worn out cars, zero technology and restricted service. You would think that our idiot level millennials could figure out that ride sharing services are the result of free enterprise and sh*tty taxi service is the result of crony corrupt capitalists in bed with corrupt politicians. But hey, government run health care will be super. Dems in Austin, ostensibly the high tech center of Texas, kicked out Uber. Took the mean republican Texas legislature to ban the ban and allow the ride sharing company to serve the citizens of Austin. Scratch a leftist, find a fascist.
