I watched USC/Utah last week. This has a similar feeling to that game, so I'm still nervous.
I mean that in the sense that, as a team, USC has looked like shit. But they have these amazing players that can make amazing plays at opportune times. Break that Cameron Williams tackle, fight through that Cade Otton block for TFL.
Utah beat USC on every single statistic except score. Utah moved up and down the field, but USC kept getting timely plays, and Utah shot themselves in the foot with penalties. It was really a confluence of fortuitously timed negative plays amidst a steady stream of getting raped, and they lucked out the win.
It's been the same thing in this game, only UW still has a two-score lead. UW is more consistent, leading in every statistical category, but they can't pull away due to unfortunately timed negative plays: Fair catch on the 4. Holding call on a big run to get out of that hole. Receiver slips on 3rd down. Missed tackle. Missed block in the red zone.
I'd really like to see the players--AND STAFF--come to the realization that "Hey, we're better/more complete than these guys" and start playing and calling the game like it. Let Bynum run downfield against that secondary and throw it to him. Run the ball when they're NOT waiting for it, and try something more than straight dives up the 1 hole.
On defense, it's just about keeping on doing what they're doing, only tackling a little better.
What I hate is: Urbs will run circles around Peterman every game. Urbs understands, give the ball to your best player, and don't be cute...let your best players do the job for you. CP....fuck me.
