All of this amazing trumptard analysis is a really devastating counterpoint to the inverted yield curve, global and US economic slowdown, and tanking equity markets today.

At least @CirrhosisDawg hangs around to take the beating. So there's that

You had an argument? Analysis of the market’s reaction to the trade war? Rationalization of trump’s tariff capitulation?
And there it is: CD's trademark Triple-Question pathology.

    Self-Immolation imminent.
    We can only hope.

    Great idea. 👍
Are cold wars as easy to win as trade wars?
US and A is 1 and 0 in cold wars. So I'd say yes.

I don't see why this is a bad idea. Relatively, China does not buy shit from us anyway.
It would be just like being a Ute football fan: 50 years of unlocked potential, low achievement and limited success — with the possibility of disaster imminent at any moment.
It would be great to sell goods to billions of people, I assume that's the unlocked potential you speak of. My understanding of what the trade deals are like, and how Xi wants to keep them is - you let us sell a ton of shit (China) and in return, you can sell 1/64th of a ton of shit back to us, okay?

So we cut them the fuck off and fire up the garment district in New York and make some fucking clothes again.
Your understanding is exactly what I expected.
Enlighten me, I'll listen to what you have to say.

David Ricardo’s texts on comparative advantage would be a good place for you to start.
Schumpter on creative destruction in markets would be helpful as well.

A normal US would exploit its fundamental strengths to lead the world trading system. In our urgent dystopian trumpian world, the US goal is to destroy free trade in order to save it.

So when the CCP targets civilian corporations with government and military grade espionage to steal the products of your ingenuity, education, etc. and sabotage their ability to operate what kind of effect do you think that has on our comparative advantage?

Other than ignoring it what do you propose to do as an alternative?

They have a comparative advantage with labor. But they take it too far. Their labor practices are criminal by US standards. It sounds great, but how do you get China to act like a grown up?

It's important to protect IP domestically Race but not internationally is I guess the argument.

Unless you don't think IP should be protected by the government at all. I can get on board with that if that's the argument. Free up the domestic market for outright piracy and we probably will be the best in the world at it.

They split the left halfback out for a different look - but it's still the belly dive off the guard to the fullback.

Step 1: do not start a futile trade war and tariff regime conducted by incompetent leadership that was always destined to fail. Btw, Merry Christmas bot!
Step 2: keep repeating step 1.

If it’s a race to the bottom and appeasement of the least common denominator you are looking for bot, congratulations. You’ve achieved it.

So we enlighten China on the concepts of minimum wage, labor unions, OSHA, workers rights, age restrictions? is that where you're going?

Free trade does not equal balls out free-for-all ... jungle rules.
It’s called COMPARATIVE advantage. You know things like skills, ingenuity, education, efficiency and productivity. On second thought, never mind.
So when the CCP targets civilian corporations with government and military grade espionage to steal the products of your ingenuity, education, etc. and sabotage their ability to operate what kind of effect do you think that has on our comparative advantage?

Other than ignoring it what do you propose to do as an alternative?
Step 1: do not start a futile trade war and tariff regime conducted by incompetent leadership that was always destined to fail. Btw, Merry Christmas bot!
Step 2: keep repeating step 1.

If it’s a race to the bottom and appeasement of the least common denominator you are looking for bot, congratulations. You’ve achieved it.
So in other words, you don't have an alternative. Do nothing. Got it. That seems to have worked out great for us the last 20 years. Lmk when you come up with an alternative. I'm all ears...or microphones.

I've got no problem going into a cold war with China. Fuck em. Prior to Nixon, they were totally closed off.

    CLOSE THE FUCKING GATES TRUMP!

    Great idea. 👍
Are cold wars as easy to win as trade wars?
US and A is 1 and 0 in cold wars. So I'd say yes.

The last 2 years of incompetent trade war management has been worse for everyone. Trump’s Merry Christmas tariff plan compromised any legitimacy or argument about continuing on this disastrous path. But at least trump is doing something?
