The irony is that they got some guy named "Jose" to axe a bunch of immigration questions and set a tone for "immigration is our #1" issue, when in reality it's not our? #1 issue, and they did it in Miami, presumably because there are a bunch of Hispans down there. But, someone forgot to check with the Bush family. They could have advised the DNC that 95% of those Hispans are as elitist as a New England boarding school white boy and don't want to let "just anybody" in the country; and 99% of that 95% are died-in-the-wool Republicans and are harder on socialism and big government than any of the pretend Patriots here in the Tug.
Trust me: those are my people. I know what they really think of the other people. They're no more interested in letting in a bunch of immigrants from central America than a redneck from the Willamette value. Cubans generally think (well, we? know) that they're better than the rest of Latin America and closer to Mother Spain that the rest.
Even under the yoke of communism, Cuba was historically a place in the eastern hemisphere outside of the US where you wanted to go for healthcare, and even though they're all starving to death the literally rate is close to 100%, and for eons all the school textbooks used in latin america were written in Cuba.
If that island, with all of its beaches and other natural attractions, culture and history were ever turned loose for foreign investment with a steady government, it would be like importing a slice of the south of France into the eastern hemisphere. Nobody would ever go to the the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Jamaica etc. Fuck I think Hawaii would take a hit, because Cuba is more interesting than Polynesia (and the food is much, much better - those fucking pineapples don't know how to cook).
