What I will say is I draw a distinction between being genuine in a photo and genuinely caring about the situation.

If a celebrity takes a camera crew to see a make-a-wish kid, they can both care about the kid and understand it’s good press. I’m sure some celebrities do good things just for the press and you are free to think that AOC only did it for the press but I don’t agree.
