    UCSF tried an early form of TIL therapy on my mother in 1996 for her melanoma. They removed a secondary tumor, irradiated it, injected cells back into her body, harvested lymph nodes near the injection, removed the T-cells, cultured them in a lab, then reinjected them into her bloodstream with massive doses of interleukin II. The idea was that the T-cells that were in the lymph nodes were the kind that had attacked the tumor cells, so they wanted to boost their numbers and send them back into the fray. She died anyway
