"Coach Lake came by for my early morning workout (at 6:30 am) and then he called me later in the day and offered," a happy Paster told Dawgman.com shortly after getting out of school. "He'd been talking to me for a while, we talked for the first time about a month ago, and we've been in contact since then and he said he liked my film, but he wanted to see me in person. Now that he'd gotten a chance to see me workout in person, he said he was ready to offer me."
While the Lake didn't get specific about where they saw him playing should he choose to sign with them, he admitted that most schools see him playing safety once he gets to college.
"I'm 6'2 and 200 pounds so a lot of schools have said that's where they are projecting me to play," Paster said. "I play corner for my team because that's where they need me to play, but I don't really care. I can play whatever helps me get on the field. I'd even play d-line if that meant I could get on the field."
While he doesn't know much about the Huskies, he does have a couple of family ties to the area and the school and he knows the most important aspects that will factor in his decision.
"My dad's friend went to school there, he wasn't a player, but he went there as a student and my aunt lives in the Tri-Cities," Paster said. "I mean, I know that's not that close, but I have family in the area up there.
"All I know is that it's a great school, one of the best in the country, and their football program is off-the-hook right now."
As far as when a decision could be made, Paster isn't going to rush the process, but he would like to have his decision made before his senior season.
"I'm at the point now where I need to start narrowing things down a little bit, probably to cut my list in half," Paster said. "The schools sticking out to me right now are Washington of course, UCLA, Cal, Utah and Oregon.
"I'm going to be looking at daily life outside of football. What's the school like when football isn't going on? What are the players' lives like away from football -- classes, friends, stuff like that -- and then just getting to know the players, where they're heads at and how I fit into the program."
As a junior this past season, Paster helped lead his team to a 9-3 record, finishing with 34 tackles and an interception as well as seven pass-breakups while rushing for 248 yards and two touchdowns while hauling in 11 receptions for nearly 200 yards and three more scores.
"I think my Football IQ is the reason why I’m so good at what I do," Paster admitted. "I don’t only know what I need to do in each situation, but I know what the offense is trying to do and what they want to do. When you know what the offense is trying to do then it makes it easier to call out plays on the field and be in better position to make a play."
Paster said he hopes to visit Montlake 'soon' unofficially. -
He'd play D-line if he had to? He has a high football IQ? He's big, long, and fast? Oh yeah baby! My OKG meter is going of the charts! Let's get this kid wrapped up. Go Dawgs Baby! WOOOOOO!
