    The Moral Majority?

“If Chief Justice Warren and his associates had known God’s word and had desired to do the Lord’s will, I am quite confident that the 1954 decision would never have been made.”

“The facilities should be separate. When God has drawn a line of distinction, we should not attempt to cross that line.”

“The true Negro does not want integration…. He realizes his potential is far better among his own race.”

“[Integration] will destroy our race eventually. In one northern city, a pastor friend of mine tells me that a couple of opposite race live next door to his church as man and wife.”

    Oh you found a quote

That settles it. Evangelicals are racist
Not what I said, of course. But if Falwell was your leader, you likely adhered to similar views.
"I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage."

Sometimes, bigots change over the years, yes?

I'm not sure Falwell did though.

The Moral Majority’s leadership was a mere handful of years removed from the 1970s integration battles involving private schools when RR was first elected.

I'm kind of a Forest Gump in that I have been in some places as history unfolds

One of them was in the buckle of the bible belt from 77 to 79 as the Reagan Revolution was forming

I was still the long haired kid from Olympia but I had gotten saved and in my zeal I went to Bible school in Oklahoma

Some folks there were a bit cool to me based on my appearance but it was multi racial. Fallwell was never my leader but he did form the Moral Majority and he did help RR. It was more about morality than race because you godless liberals were destroying the fabric of our society

As you know I didn't vote for Reagan either time.

I did meet Pat Robertson on a trip with a street preacher of some note in Tulsa who appeared on his show. Pat had one dish at that time. Dropped by the PTL show with Jim Bakker too. Saw Jimmy Swaggart in concert and toured the racist SEC SEC SEC south.

I found it sad to see what happened to all of those guys as fame and money and power led them astray. Its a familiar story.

But to box all this up in simplistic RACIST commentary is just silly. I just roll my eyes

I came back to the great NW and entered construction. I not much of a fan of organized anything to be honest but I am still a believer.

So you heard the racist dog whistle and you liked it, it called you.

You know what's interesting O'Keefed, despite all the years you and I have been posting on the same board, in the hundreds of times I've seen liberals like HC trash Reagan as a racist, you've never refuted them, not once.

Weird the way such a HUGE Reagan supporter such as yourself would sit by silently when liberals trash the only piece of evidence you have to support your self-professed claim of being a Conservative.

Did Reagan capture the white racist vote? Obviously he did. Where the Hell do you think the "Moral Majority" came from anyway? But that doesn't mean I think his voters were mostly racists.

Did his campaign play to working class white anxiety? Yes. Of course it did. But that doesn't mean I think he was a racist.

The objective is to get elected. You have to be polite to some of the most dreadful people. It's an awful process, only slightly better than the alternative.
Whenever a conservative wins why is always the "racist" vote thing? Democrats are the racists. Proven by history. Republicans gave freedom and their blood was the price paid.
