True, if your bpm's are high enough and you worship Satan it can override the weirdo, nerdy keyboard player in the group.MariotaTheGawd said:
Use of a keyboard most certainly does not disqualify a band from being metaljoeEDangerously said:All 4 Yellow listed definitely inspired metal bands but none should be considered Heavy Metal.
Deep Purple certainly has some heaviness but I'm afraid the use of a keyboard in every song disqualifies them. Sure its been used by Sabbath, Dio and others on some occasion but even Blackmore himself considered them an instrumental jam band who just happened to be able to use lyrics... Not metal
AC/DC uses about 5 chords, no palm muting, sings only about sex. Not enough depressing shit. Love them to death... Not metal.
Zepplin is too blues based, has too many folky sounding tunes. Certainly has elements of heavy... Not metal.
Van Halen is imo the closest, Eddie can be really heavy, has plenty of chunky riffs, super hot rodded solos. Arguably the most influential guitar player ever, but as much as I love them they have way too many songs with Motown-esque harmonies... Not metal
Also, you're a straight up fag if you dont think Iron Maiden is metal -
don't get clever with me, I've seen these dudes and Dimmu Borgir a couple of times.UW_Doog_Bot said:

F off grandpa. To us youngsters who were introduced to them via recent documentaries and televised concerts, they are not that heavy. Their concert staples are shit like this:joeEDangerously said:

Plus heaviness isnt just how noisy the thing is. The Trooper has one of the great riffs ever and is still as metal today as it was when it came out -
“The Trooper” is a legendary hard rock song. Iron Maiden slows down way too much to be what I would consider metal (Reign in Blood, GWAR, etc.). They like to start slow, build up, then slow down. Or do so in a different pattern. Watch their documentaries, they admit that it is the classic “Maiden” style. They belong in a step below Led Zeppelin as an iconic hard rock band.MariotaTheGawd said:
