I understand the going rate part, but damn. That is shit ton of money. I don't see Foles playing well for a full season. Yes, he is better than Bortles. If he gets them to the playoffs back to back seasons then money well spent.

They're thinking they have a good enough defense (they do) to make multiple runs with a competent quarterback. I don't think Foles is that great, but he's good enough with a good defense behind him. You don't have big windows in the NFL anymore, unless you are the Patriots. So, if the one piece you think you are missing is no longer having a net negative QB, you throw money at the best QB available to help right now. Foles was the best QB available, so they jumped on it. He wouldn't get that kind of money in other years, but the down free agent market inflated his market value. The Jags overpaid, but they didn't have much of a choice.
