You don't need a day off to fill out a ballot at home and mail it. You can register rather easily too

If someone doesn't vote they either don't want to or are too stupid to breathe let alone vote

I know there is this holy grail of non voters that are itching for a socialist paradise but they are going to have to exert some modicum of effort to get it.

I think with the increasing stratification of the economy and the types of jobs the majority of Americans now hold, its way more difficult to get the day off to vote. I do think lots of votes are left on the table by people that have no choice but to work. I dont’t have any data to back that up but I believe it to be anecdotally true. I’m curious if there are ideas out there about allowing more people in that situation to get off work besides a full blown holiday.

The states you want votes from make it pathetically easy to vote. Legal or illegal,

Trump brought out people that had given up on voting.

If you want the votes of people who don't vote you need to convince them it is worth it. The last two years have convinced my liberal wife it is a waste of time. Win her back and we can talk

So you're proposing not merely a federal holiday, but essentially a mandatory shutdown of private business (essential services exempted I assume)?

No, I’m saying that I see workers being unable to get time off as an issue and I’m asking for ideas. A federal holiday might work as many businessess honor them as well, but then again lots of the businesses that employ the people who have this issue don’t.

I love voting. The one time I didn't was 08 because I was living in Olympia during the week and registered in Seattle and didn't ask for a absentee ballot. Why?

Obama had it in the bag the day he was nominated and McCain didn't bother to campaign.

Polls are open 8 to 8. You can get a mail in ballot. If you care you vote. If you don't you make excuses. That's my anecdotal evidence

If your primary goal to give lower strata of the economy a free-and-clear day to vote, a federal holiday wouldn't go far enough. @IPukeOregonGrellow for example is still pumping gas on July 4.
